Recovery plan mustn't put weight on public finances - Castex

French Prime Minister Jean Castex said on Wednesday the recovery plan from the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic must not put a burden on public finances and called for the consolidation of the economy through the transformation of "ways of producing, administering and governing."

The prime minister added the impact of the plan on France's public debt will be erased by 2025 and stressed the government is doing "everything possible to avoid general confinement" through a series of pragmatic solutions that are to be outlined by the beginning of September.

Earlier in the day, Castex stated that there is no need to panic about the pandemic despite new surges in virus cases and that the country will continue to reopen.
