Sunak says no return to austerity for UK next week

British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak said on Sunday that the United Kingdom will not return to austerity next week as there will be an increase in public spending,

Speaking to Sky News, Sunak added that he cannot rule out a pay-freeze in the public service sector. Asked about extending the universal credit scheme, the chancellor stated it doesn't expire before April so there is plenty of time to decide on it. "We keep everything under review... this virus is adapting and evolving... it wouldn't be right to make long-term decisions right now," Sunak said.

He went on to comment on calls for a cost-benefit analysis of the coronavirus tier restriction system's effectiveness, saying that it is impossible to be precise as the pandemic is impacted by many things.
