UK, EU continue Brexit talks as deadline nears
The European Union's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier (pictured right) traveled on Saturday to London where he is meeting face-to-face with his British counterpart David Frost (left) in an effort to reach a breakthrough in the trade deal negotiations. Barnier stated on Friday that he is approaching the talks with "patience and determination" ahead of the end-of-year deadline when the United Kingdom's transition period expires.
Both sides have acknowledged that a deal is still possible, although differences remain. A report claimed that the EU is prepared to formally recognize British sovereignty over UK waters, a major sticking point in negotiations. However, some officials alleged that an agreement is not likely and accused both the EU and the UK of "running down the clock."
