Iran passes bill on higher uranium enrichment

The Iranian parliament passed on Sunday a bill called "the strategic measure for the removal of sanctions," which includes an article on boosting the country's uranium enrichment.

Under the bill, which was approved by 232 members of parliament and opposed by only 14, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran will be required to produce uranium enriched at least 20%.

Under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran is allowed to enrich uranium up to 3.67%. Earlier, Tehran reduced its JCPOA commitments in response to the United States' decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal.
