Gold falls 2% to drop below $1,800

Prices of precious metals decreased on Thursday, with gold dropping over 2% below the $1,800 threshold for the first time in the last two months, amid the stronger US dollar.

The greenback continued its recent winning streak on optimism that the US economy will recover at a faster pace as more stimulus will be rolled out.

Spot gold fell 2.02% to sell for 1,796.33 per ounce at 9:19 am ET, while silver sank 2.23% to $26.22 per ounce a minute later. Platinum slid 1.98% to $1,081.76 at the same time, while palladium concurrently went down by 1.18% to go for $2,249.44 an ounce.
