Consumer confidence in Japan improves in March

Japan's seasonally adjusted Consumer Confidence Index rose by 2.3 points compared to the month before to stand at 36.1 in March, a report released by the country's Cabinet Office showed on Thursday.

The overall livelihood index increased by 1.8 points to reach 38.0, while the income growth indicator marked a 1.6-point growth, climbing to 37.2. The employment index advanced by 3.3 points to amount to 31.0, with the willingness to buy durable goods at 38.1, up by 2 points compared to the previous month's figure.

The percentage of survey respondents who said they expect the prices to rise in the year ahead increased by 1.5% in March to 71.3%, while 9% of people claimed they see the prices going down.
