US, China agree to work together to tackle climate change

The United States and China agreed to work together to tackle climate change and strengthen the implementation of the Paris Agreement, according to a joint statement issued following the meeting of US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry (pictured) and China Special Envoy for Climate Change Xie Zhenhua.

"The United States and China are committed to cooperating with each other and with other countries to tackle the climate crisis, which must be addressed with the seriousness and urgency that it demands," the statement read. Washington and Beijing added they are both looking forward to next week's Leaders Summit on Climate hosted by the US.

The two countries added they intend to develop "long-term strategies aimed at net zero GHG emissions/carbon neutrality" by November when the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) is set to take place in Glasgow.
