Pfizer applies for vaccine use in ages 12-15 in UK - report

Pfizer Inc. applied to the United Kingdom's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for the use of their COVID-19 vaccine, developed jointly with BioNTech SE, in ages ranging from 12 to 15, the Telegraph reported.

A Pfizer spokesperson confirmed to the paper that the company asked the regulating body for approval stating: "We can confirm that the companies have submitted a request to the MHRA to expand the use of the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid vaccine in the UK to adolescents." However, the Deputy Chairman of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) questioned the need for the vaccine in adolescents, citing ethical reasons as according to them the vaccination would be more to help the community rather than the individual.

The news comes on the heels of the United States approving the Pfizer jab for ages 12 to 15, and reports of Pfizer also applying tor the use of their vaccines in ages younger than 12 in the US.
