Tesla's new car orders in China plunge 50% in May - report

The number of new vehicle orders received by Tesla in China dropped as much as 50% in May compared to the previous month, according to the company's internal data cited by The Information on Thursday. Tesla's monthly net orders fell from over 18,000 recorded in April to just around 9,800 last month, sources familiar with the data revealed.

The American tech giant faced backlash over multiple events that occurred last month. Tesla recalled a number of Model 3 and Y cars in China, while delaying the delivery of Model S Plaid to later in June. Meanwhile, Model 3 lost the "top pick" rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Consumer Reports.
