Blinken, Maas: Imperative for US, Germany to work together

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken and German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas held a joint press conference on Wednesday about their meeting earlier in the day, during which they discussed political situations in Libya, Iran, Ukraine, and Russia, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Maas stressed the importance of "transatlantic collaboration and solidarity and a division of labor" between Germany and the US while expressing his satisfaction that "America is back, back on the international and multilateral scene."

Meanwhile, Blinken noted the presence of "an imperative, maybe more than ever before, to find ways to cooperate, work together, coordinate, and that's exactly what the US and Germany are doing." He pointed out there are still "areas of disagreements," such as the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, but added that "we'll handle our disagreements while pressing ahead on the many areas where we are working very closely together and are very much in agreement."
