EU to consider additional sanctions against Russia

Heads of the European Union's member states invited on Friday the High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell to "present options for additional restrictive measures, including economic sanctions" against Russia. They insisted on a "firm and coordinated response by the EU and its member states to any further malign, illegal and disruptive activity by Russia, making full use of all instruments at the EU’s disposal, and ensuring coordination with partners."

Meanwhile, the leaders concluded the union should engage with Turkey in a "phased, proportionate and reversible manner to enhance cooperation in a number of areas of common interest." However, they stressed the need to address issues such as Turkey's stance on Cyprus, refugees, and the rule of law, among others.
