Amazon Care seeking to partner with health insurers - report

Amazon's healthcare division Care is looking to expand its customer base and has already approached several insurance companies, such as CVS-owned Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield, The Insider reported on Wednesday citing multiple anonymous sources close to the matter.

However, the negotiations hit a rough patch over agreeing on payment plans. According to reports, Amazon prefers a "value-based" arrangement, where the insurer would pay based on how well the provider cared for its patients. However, the health plans are looking to be paid for each health service a person uses.

Amazon launched its Care division as a pilot to care for its employees, but so far it has expanded across the country and beyond only virtual appointments. Within the original project, Amazon had already partnered with Aetna and Premera insurance companies over administrative work.
