US House votes to suspend debt limit through 2022

The majority of the United States House representatives voted on Tuesday to suspend the federal debt ceiling until 2022 and to advance the bill funding the US government through December 3.

The Democrat leadership that currently controls both chambers of Congress combined spending and debt measures in one bill, despite Republican opposition. With the majority of the House seats under Democrats, the bill was easily passed.

However, Republican Senator Mitch McConnell vowed to block the bill in the Senate. Should the debt ceiling not be raised, the US government could go into a recession.
