Taper may begin at next meeting, end by mid-2022 - Powell

The Federal Reserve has discussed the suitable pace of tapering once economic conditions have been met, central bank's Chair Jerome Powell (pictured) stated on Wednesday, noting that that finishing the process by the middle of next year is "likely to be appropriate."

If the economy continues in line with expectations, the Fed "could easily move ahead with the taper at the next meeting," the official asserted.

Powell said that there is "broad" support for the taper timeline at the Federal Open Market Committee, added that there are members that would have "preferred to go sooner due to financial stability concerns."
