AstraZeneca asks FDA for approval of its COVID drug

AstraZeneca filed an application with the United States Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday, asking the agency to approve the company's newest drug used to prevent COVID-19.

The British vaccine maker noted that the medicament could reduce risks of people infected with the coronavirus showing any symptoms by 77%. The therapy, known as AZD7442, delivers lab-made antibodies to those who need to further boost their immune systems next to getting vaccinated.

Similar therapies are being developed by Eli Lilly, GlaxoSmithKline and Regeneron. Meanwhile, AstraZeneca also plans to file for approval of its COVID-19 vaccine in the US this year.
