Europe opens lower with data, earnings in focus

Major European markets opened in the red on Tuesday as investors focused on corporate earnings and economic data. Before the bell, Bayer reported better-than-expected results for the third quarter, while BioNTech is due to report its earnings later in the day. On the data front, Germany published its trade balance figures and ZEW is set to publish its investor sentiment survey for the Eurozone.

The FTSE 100 lost 0.14% at 9:00 am CET as Entain declined 1.47% at 9:00 am CET.

The DAX was down 0.13% at 9:03 am CET. The worst performer was Fresenius Medical Care whose shares slid 3.04%.

The CAC 40 fell 0.34% at 9:00 am CET. Hermes, down 2.35%, led the losses.

The euro added 0.05% against the dollar to go for 1.15945 at 8:57 am CET and the pound was flat compared to the US currency, selling for 1.35658 at the same time.
