EMA recommends 2 antibody COVID drugs
The European Medicines Agency's (EMA) Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) recommended on Thursday the approval of two monoclonal antibody COVID-19 medicines.
The agency issued a statement explaining that the two drugs, dubbed "Regkirona and Ronapreve," can be used for treating people aged 12 and older who weigh more than 40 kilograms. The two medicines were developed by Celltrion Healthcare Hungary Kft, and by joint efforts of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Roche Registration GmbH. Both treatments "significantly reduce hospitalization and deaths in COVID-19 patients at risk of severe" illness, the statement read.
"The CHMP will now send its recommendations for both medicines to the European Commission for rapid legally binding decisions," the statement read.
