US opens mostly lower ahead of earnings

United States stock markets opened flat to lower on Wednesday in anticipation of new earnings data.

Housing starts in the US fell by 0.7% in October in comparison to the month before, in the midst of COVID-related economic woes. The US also announced to be buying 300,000 additional doses of GlaxoSmithKline's (GSK) COVID-19 antibody drug in an effort to facilitate the recovery from the pandemic. Notably, Target already released its earnings data for the previous quarter, with Nvidia and Cisco expected to do the same by the end of the day.

The Dow Jones opened 0.11% in the red, with Visa Inc leading the losses with a 5.24% decrease. Similarly, the S&P 500 declined by 0.12%, as Visa Inc traded 4.95% lower. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq 100 remained mostly flat. The euro also remained flat against the dollar to trade for $1.13090 at 9:30 am ET.
