Austria sees record cases ahead of full lockdown
Austrian health authorities reported on Friday a new record in daily registered COVID-19 cases across the country, as the government announced a new set of measures to curb the latest outbreak.
The country saw 15.809 new infections and 48 coronavirus-related deaths, setting the highest figure since the start of the pandemic. In response to the situation, Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg confirmed Austria will undergo a 20-day lockdown starting from November 22.
Furthermore, the government plans to impose a general COVID-19 vaccine mandate from February 1 next year.
