Moon: S. Korea to halt easing virus restrictions

South Korean President Moon Jae-in stated on Monday his country will put easing the rules of social distancing imposed to fight COVID-19 on hold as the nation continues to face spikes in new infections.

Moon added that maintaining tightened restrictions is necessary to prevent the newly found strain of the virus from spreading further in South Korea. He also urged local health authorities to speed up the vaccination of children and young adults against the disease.

South Korea previously restricted the issuance of visas for people from eight African countries, including South Africa, amid concerns about the new Omicron variant of coronavirus.
