US, allies insist on Ukraine's sovereignty

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken (pictured) spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, reiterating Washington's "unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity in the face of Russian aggression." The call follows Ukrainian claims there are around 94,000 Russian troops on its border, as Russian President Vladimir Putin prepares to hold a virtual meeting with US President Joe Biden on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, leaders of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, and the US discussed the situation in Ukraine, insisting on the need to preserve the country's sovereignty and peace in the region. They also called on Russia to reengage in negotiations with Ukraine in the Normandy Format, also including Germany and France.
