US opens lower as Russia-Ukraine attacks continue

Major stock markets in the United States opened lower on Thursday, continuing yesterday’s losing streak, while Russian and Ukrainian military forces proceed to clash. Ukraine broke off diplomatic relations with Russia earlier today. The United States President Joe Biden will address the ongoing crisis between the two countries at the G7’s Leaders’ meeting.

On the earnings front, Moderna Inc.’s fourth quarter revenue climbed to $7.2 billion, while Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. also recorded a rise in their revenue for the third quarter, which stood at $38 billion.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index opened with a 2.49% or a 826-point loss at 9:31 am ET as American Express Co decreased 5.15% at 9:35 am ET. Nasdaq 100 decreased 2.87% at 9:31 am ET as Bookings Holding plunged 10.77% at 9:45 am ET. The S&P 500 was 2.43% lower, with EPAM Systems Inc, as the worst performer, plummeting 16.80%.

The euro traded 1.38% lower against the dollar, selling for 1.11489 at 9:35 am ET.
