Unemployment rate in euro area down to 6.8% in January

Eurozone's seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 6.8% in January 2022, down 0.2 percentage points from December 2021 and 1.5 percentage points lower compared to January 2021, Eurostat revealed in its report on Thursday.

The unemployment rate in the entire European Union in January 2022 came in at 6.2%, declining 0.1 percentage points in comparison to the previous month and falling 1.3 percentage points year-on-year.

The highest unemployment rates in January 2022 amongst the countries in the European Union were recorded in Greece and Spain, standing at 13.3% and 12.7% respectively. Czechia's 2.2% unemployment rate was the lowest in the European Union, followed by Poland's 2.8%.
