Europe closes mostly lower amid NATO, G7 meetings

Major European markets closed mostly lower on Thursday amid the Ukraine crisis and the latest news on the NATO and G7 meetings that discussed the situation and its global implications.

During the day, investors knew that Ukraine sees some progress in the negotiations with Russia. However, Biden said that NATO would be ready for more dangerous scenarios while imposing a new round of sanctions against members of Russia's Duma, Russian elites, defense entities, and bank board members.

The DAX lost 0.07% at the close, with Heidelbergcement down by 4.39%. The CAC 40 fell 0.39%, while Veolia Environnement SA decreased by 2.85%. The FTSE 100 rose 0.09%, as Polymetal International improved by 3.43%. The euro was flat against the dollar at 5:29 pm CET, selling for $1.10005. In comparison, the pound lost 0.14% to go for $1.31856 at the same time.
