UK hopes EU's position on N. Ireland trade changes - Johnson

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated on Sunday evening that he hopes the European Union's stance on North Ireland's post-Brexit trade regulations changes, in order to prevent Britain's unilateral action that could lead to a trade clash with the block.

"There is without question a sensible landing spot in which everyone's interests are protected (...) I hope the EU's position changes. If it does not, there will be a necessity to act," Johnson underlined.

He also added that the British government has a responsibility to ensure that "the consumers, citizens and businesses of Northern Ireland are protected in the long-term," noting that Downing Street will set out a more detailed assessment of the situation in the coming period.
