EU's energy security 'crucial' - Johnson, Orban

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke to his Hungarian counterpart on Friday evening discussing the introduction of an oil embargo against Russia. The two prime ministers agreed that ensuring the bloc's energy security and internal stability is "crucial."

In a statement released by the British Prime Minister's office, Johnson expressed hopes for the European Union to move through with its sixth sanctions package against Russia citing the top priority of ending the Ukrainian conflict. Furthermore, Johnson stated London is aware of the challenges countries face in obtaining energy supplies, but emphasized the importance of "applying maximum economic pressure" on Moscow.

Previously, Budapest demanded that the oil embargo is not considered during the next week's bloc's summit, asking the European Union to offer solutions, before any sanctions are agreed upon.
