Kuleba: Ukraine still in plans to join NATO

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told French radio station RFI on Wednesday that his country has not given up on its intention to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as the nation's right to do so is "spelled out in the constitution."

Kuleba described the alliance as the "most effective security mechanism" in Europe. Still, he stressed that Ukraine's intention to join it is "not enough" as "it is necessary that the alliance also wants it." NATO, however, has not "taken any steps towards our integration" since the beginning of Russia's military operation in Ukraine, Kuleba noted.

Earlier this month, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov urged NATO to grant his country a de facto membership within its ten-year plan, which is being discussed at the alliance's summit that is currently taking place in Madrid.
