Japan's services activity expands in June

Japan's service sector performance stood slightly below market expectations in June, despite expanding at the quickest pace since October 2013, according to a report released by the IHS Markit on Tuesday.

The seasonally adjusted figure showed the Jibun Bank Japan Services Business Activity Index landing at 54.0 to stand above the neutral 50 and mark an overall growth in the sector.

"Japanese service sector firms reported a solid increase in activity that was the quickest in over eight-and-a-half years at the end of the second quarter as remaining domestic COVID-19 restrictions were lifted," Economist at IHS Markit Usamah Bhatti said about the data.
