Report: Amazon cutting back on private-label selection
Amazon has started to decrease the number of items under its private-label selection, following criticism about preferential treatment of its own products versus those of other sellers on its website and disappointing sale results, the Wall Street Journal reported citing people familiar with the company's business dealings.
The sources also added that Amazon will not be reordering some of its own items and that it is considering stopping producing its private label entirely.
The move was started after a business review by Dave Clark, the former head of Amazon's global consumer business. Clark, who left the company last month, had primarily focused on selling commodity goods from retailers such as Target and Walmart.
