UK trade deficit up to record £27.9B in Q2

The United Kingdom's total trade deficit, excluding precious metals, rose by £2 billion in the three months ending with June to stand at £27.9 billion, the Office for National Statistics said in a report published on Friday. The quarterly deficit reading in current prices is the highest since trade data started being tracked in 1997.

In the second quarter, the goods deficit went up by £1.5 billion to £62.6 billion, with imports of goods increasing by £12.2 billion or 8.3%, and exports of goods rising by £10.7 billion or 12.4%.

The services surplus decreased by £500 million to £34.7 billion in the second three-month period of 2022.
