US to buy Ukrainian wheat for World Food Program

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) stated it will spend $68 million to purchase, move, and store up to 150,000 metric tons of Ukrainian wheat for the United Nations' World Food Program. "This shipment will support the humanitarian response in the Horn of Africa where a historic drought is pushing millions of people to the brink of starvation," the agency said.

The US has provided nearly $7.6 billion to respond to the global food security crisis since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war, USAID said. The Biden administration has given $.48 billion to the World Food Program in 2022, a record high.
