US sanctions dozens of Russian individuals, entities
The United States Treasury Department revealed on Friday dozens of Russian individuals and entities have been added to the sanctions list following the accession of Ukraine's four territories to Russia.
"We will not stand by as Putin fraudulently attempts to annex parts of Ukraine. The US is taking sweeping action today to further weaken Russia's already degraded military-industrial complex and undermine its ability to wage its illegal war," the country's Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stated.
Yellen stressed that the United States together with its allies "will not hesitate to take swift and severe actions" against individuals and companies that are responsible for the "sham" referendums. Russian Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina is among those sanctioned by the United States along with the family of Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.
