Le Maire, Tai talk US Inflation Reduction Act
French Economy, Finance and Recovery Minister Bruno Le Maire and United States Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai had a virtual meeting earlier in the day during which the former voiced his concerns about parts of Washington's Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the latter's office said in a written statement issued on Monday.
"Ambassador Tai and Minister Le Maire agreed that the US and European Union should work together to deepen the bilateral understanding of the legislation, which makes historic investments in green technology and clean energy in order to fight the climate crisis," the rest of the statement said.
France previously expressed its concerns about the IRA, with President Emmanuel Macron claiming the bill is not in line with the World Trade Organization's (WTO) rules, and Le Maire describing it as a potential "major shock on European industry."
