Meta warns of ChatGPT-related malware surge

Meta Platforms Inc. stated Wednesday that it had discovered a rise in malware vendors taking advantage of widespread public interest in ChatGPT to induce users to download malicious apps and browser extensions.

"ChatGPT is the new crypto," Meta Chief Information Security Officer Guy Rosen said while stressing that since March, the company has found about ten malware families and more than 1,000 malicious sites that advertised themselves as tools of the popular artificial intelligence-based chatbot.

In addition, Rosen also declared the company was gearing up its defenses against several potential cases of abuse related to generative AI.
