Europe opens mostly lower with Powell, data in focus
Major indexes in Europe opened mostly lower on Friday as investors focused on the United States Federal Reserve's Jackson Hole symposium, where Fed Chair Jerome Powell is set to speak later in the day, and digested the latest GDP figures from Germany. On the data front, market watchers are also awaiting a report on Germany's business climate.
The Euro Stoxx 50 fell 0.29% at 9:00 am CET. ASML Holdings, down 1.59%, led the losses.
The DAX decreased 0.24% at 9:00 am CET. The worst performer was Continental, down 1.46%.
The CAC 40 was 0.23% in the red at 9:00 am CET with Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield sliding 0.96%.
The FTSE 100 was up 0.08% at 9:01 am CET. The best performer was Antofagasta, whose stock traded 0.85% higher.
The euro lost 0.27% against the dollar to go for 1.07800 at 8:59 am CET and the pound declined 0.25% compared to the US currency to sell for 1.25692 at the same time.
