Dow Jones closes lower after data, earnings

Stock indexes in the United States wrapped up Thursday's session slightly higher, with the Dow Jones remaining below the flatline as market participants appeared cautious after today's data releases which showed jobless claims at a three-month high and a larger-than-expected contraction of the country's industrial production in October.

Furthermore, Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook spoke about a possible, but not assured, "soft landing" for the country's economy. In business, Warner Music and Walmart unveiled their quarterly financial reports earlier today.

At the closing bell, the Dow Jones lost 0.13%, with Cisco Systems plummeting 9.83%. The Nasdaq 100 was 0.10% higher and the S&P 500 rose 0.12% at the same time as Intel Corporation jumped 6.75%.

The euro was flat against the dollar at 3:59 pm ET, selling for $1.08467.
