US closes mostly flat after Fed remarks

Major United States stock markets closed mostly flat on Friday after Federal Reserve leaders made remarks on economic conditions indicating continued uncertainty. On the other hand, market participants were analyzing inflation data released earlier in the week, seemingly hoping that restrictive monetary policy was coming to an end. On the data front, housing starts showed an increase.

Both the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq 100 were flat at close. On the other hand, the S&P 500 closed 0.13% higher with Ross Stores, Inc. soaring 7.22%.

At 3:58 pm ET, the euro was 0.57% higher compared to the US dollar, changing hands for 1.09083.
