GOP Rep. Santos refuses to resign if voted out

United States House Representative George Santos said he will not resign if he is expelled from the House due to his ongoing legal troubles. "The people of the Third District of New York sent me here. If they want me out, you’re going to have to go silence those people and go take the hard vote," Santos said ahead of a House vote expected to take place on Friday.

"This will haunt them in the future where mere allegations are sufficient to have members removed from office when duly elected by their people in their respective states and districts," the Republican lawmaker added. Santos pleaded not guilty to charges including wire fraud, money laundering and making deliberately false statements to the House. In addition, the House Ethics Committee said in a report in November that he "sought to fraudulently exploit every aspect of his House candidacy for his own personal financial profit."
