Main UK mobile firms face £3.3B class action suit

Vodafone Group Plc., BT Group Plc.'s EE, CK Hutchison Holdings Ltd.'s Three UK and Virgin Media O2 were sued by a law firm Charles Lyndon and Justin Gutmann, a market researcher, over allegedly ripping customers off.

"The proceedings seek compensation of approximately £3 billion on behalf of between 2.3 million and 4.8 million contract customers," the law firm said in a statement, adding that the four companies in question have been abusing "their dominant market positions."

Gutmann accused the firms of "systematically" exploiting millions of users across the United Kingdom "through loyalty penalties." The lawsuit is yet to be officially notified as a class action by a judge.
