Oxford to start human trials of COVID-19 vaccine

The University of Oxford has confirmed on Friday that its experimental coronavirus vaccine is entering its final stages of development and that it will be tested on humans soon.

The vaccine will be tested on 10,260 volunteers. Adrian Hill, one of the main researchers working on the development, told NBC that these trials would show how and in what way the vaccine is effective: "We still think they're fairly high but not guaranteed. But we're doing our best to show that it works over the next few months."

Oxford University has recently joined forces with pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca for vaccine research. Should it prove effective, it could be on the market in early September, the company noted. The United Kingdom currently has 254,195 registered cases, with a death toll of 36,393.
