Pompeo urges diplomatic solution in N. Karabakh

United States State Secretary Mike Pompeo called on Tuesday for the ceasefire and diplomatic solution of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh in two separate calls with Armenian Prime Minister Nikola Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

"Secretary Pompeo pressed the leaders to abide by their commitments [...] under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group [...] and noted that there is no military solution to this conflict. The Secretary stressed the importance of fully implementing the ceasefire agreed in Moscow on October 10 and reaffirmed in the statement issued from Paris on October 17," the statement issued by the State Department read.

Pompeo previously, along with French Foreign and European Affairs Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian and Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov, urged Armenia and Azerbaijan to agree to the ceasefire Nagorno-Karabakh. Later on, he criticized Turkey for its alleged involvement in the conflict and called for a resolution through "negotiation and peaceful discussions."
