Psaki: Paris was informed of the AUKUS deal in advance

White House Press Secretary told reporters on Thursday that the French government was in fact informed in advance of the upcoming partnership between the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. However, she did not describe the extent of their acquaintance with the deal.

"We value our relationship and our partnership with France on a variety of issues facing the global community. [...] I would leave it of course to our Australian partners to describe why they sought this new technology and why they pursued this technology from the United States," Psaki added.

Earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian condemned the deal, calling it a "stab in the back" and said that such things "are not done between allies". The French embassy in Washington D.C. has also canceled its event dedicated to the celebration of US-French relations.
