S. Korea's daily virus cases at record-high 5,123

The number of infections from COVID-19 registered daily in South Korea came in at 5,123 on Wednesday, surpassing 5,000 for the first time and becoming the country's new all-time high. The Far Eastern nation now counts a total of 452,350 cases recorded since the start of the pandemic.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) added that 34 more people died in the previous 24 hours, raising the figure for fatalities linked to coronavirus and observed in that country to 3,658. The KDCA also noted an increase in the nation's fatality rate from 0.78 recorded the month before to 0.81.

The number of critically ill patients also reached its record high of 723, the first time that figure surpassed 700.
