Inflation in China at 0.2% in May

China's consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.2% on an annual basis in May, to perform slightly better than market estimates, according to a report by the country's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released on Friday.

The figure marginally increased compared to the 0.1% year-over-year value recorded in April. Meanwhile, consumer prices fell 0.2% on a monthly basis. Both food and non-food prices registered a decline, dropping 0.7% and 0.1% respectively.

The NBS data also showed that the country's producer price index (PPI) in May decreased by 4.6% year-over-year and 0.9% month-on-month.
