Spain has 655 new coronavirus deaths

Spain registered 655 new coronavirus-caused fatalities in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll from the infection to 4,089 nationwide, the country's health authorities unveiled on Thursday. The figure increased by 19% compared to yesterday's update but the daily growth in fatalities caused by COVID-19 slowed down from 738 new deaths recorded the day prior.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases surged by 8,578 or 18% compared to Wednesday's figure to reach 56,188 in Spain, marking the nation's steepest daily jump in the COVID-19 infections.

A total of 7,015 people successfully recovered from the infection while 3,679 Spanish residents were in the intensive care units due to their critical condition.
