Stray Chinese rocket crashes into Indian Ocean

China's Long March 5B Yao-2 rocket went down in the Indian Ocean, Chinese authorities confirmed.

According to a statement posted on Waibo, the China Manned Space Engineering Office confirmed re-entry into the atmosphere, adding that the falling area of the wreckage was "located in the surrounding waters of 72.47°E and 2.65°N [Indian Ocean]." Moreover, the statement added that most of the rocket burned on re-entry citing "erosion destruction"

The rocket carried the central parts of China's new space station on launch, but, while the Tianhe space station module has continued its planned orbit, the core part of the rocket started falling back to Earth prompting the world's space agencies to track the falling rocket amid fears that it might hit a populated area.
