Thiel's Palantir announces Japanese JV with Sompo

American private-held data analytics company Palantir Technologies formed a joint venture with Japan's insurance holdings firm Sompo Holdings, Palantir co-founder and chairman, billionaire Peter Thiel (pictured), announced in Tokyo on Monday.

The deal is worth $150 million and the joint venture will be owned 50-50 by Palantir and Sompo and will focus on health and cybersecurity, servicing both the Japanese government and commercial customers.
