Tokyo, Osaka lift COVID restrictions on restaurants

Japan's prefectures of Tokyo and Osaka have lifted coronavirus-related restriction measures for bars and restaurants on Monday as the number of daily registered COVID-19 cases continued to decline.

All restaurants and bars that have complied with the government's preventive COVID-19 rules will be able to serve alcohol until late hours without time restrictions starting from today, while those that haven't been certificated yet will have to close at 9 pm.

However, the number of guests per table will remain at four, with larger gatherings possible if people are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The measures are being removed after Japan registered less than 1,000 per day over the previous week.
