Trump announces prescription drug prices reduction

United States President Donald Trump announced on Friday that his administration is reducing the price of prescription drugs for American patients and seniors. The president added that the move comes as special interests, drug lobbyists and foreign countries "ripped off" US patients until now. He noted that the reduction is the first of its kind in 51 years.

The move will be enforced through four executive orders: Trump will force providers to pass on discounts on insulin and epipens to patients; the US will also from now on allow states, wholesalers and pharmacies to import drugs from Canada, where prices are significantly lower; a third executive order will stop "middlemen" from getting discounts from drug companies and then not passing then on to patients; finally, the Medicare will be required to purchase drugs from pharmaceutical companies at the same prices as other countries.
