Turkey to begin gas drilling off Libyan coast - Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday that his country is planning to start drilling for gas in Libyan waters this year.

Erdogan made the announcement in a speech in Ankara today reminding that, in line with the accord Turkey reached with the Government of National Accord (GNA) in Libya and its head Fayez al-Sarraj, his country is set to start exploration and drilling activities in the eastern Mediterranean in 2020. "Through strengthening production, export and employment rate and protecting our rights on the international front, especially in the Mediterranean region, we are opening doors of a new rising period," the Turkish president said.

Erdogan announced earlier in the day that he is sending the country's troops to Libya according to the agreement Turkey has with the GNA.
